Character Selection

There are six different character classes in Legends of Might and Magic - Paladin, Druid and Sorceress (Good) and Warrior, Heretic and Archer (Evil). The Paladin/Warrior roughly match up, as do the Druid/Heretic and Sorceress/Archer. Each class has its own balanced mix of strengths and weaknesses. The majority of the class differences surface when the game first begins, and again during the last rounds of the game. For the rounds in the middle, most classes a fairly even.

In early rounds, the biggest differences are among the various initial weapons. In later rounds the biggest difference are among the unique weapons. In the middle rounds everyone has had a chance to buy weapons and other equipment, but no unique weapons.

Relative to its equivalent class on the other team, each class does about the same amount of damage and can fight at the same speed. This means that Paladins and Warriors are pretty evenly matched. Similarly, druids and Heretics are about equal, and so are Sorceresses and Archers.

In general terms, Paladins and Warriors are the strongest melee characters at the start of the game. At the other Extreme, Sorceresses and Archers are awful at melee, but their ranged weapon is very effective. The Druid and Heretic fall somewhere in the middle of all of this with decent melee and ranged weapons. Later in the game, the balance shifts when the Sorceress and Archer are able to buy super class weapons.

As the game progresses, each character earns gold and the privilege of buying equipment and the "Unique weapon" (super-weapon) for their particular class. Other than the super-weapon, every character can buy just about anything in the game. The exceptions are that Warlords cannot buy anything, and certain types of armor can only be purchased by certain classes.

Character Height

Character hight can actually make a difference in the game. The shorter you are, the smaller a target you present. The taller you are, the easier it is to see over obstacles. Character heights range from 5'2" (Sorceress) to 6' even (Paladin and Warlord)
